It began when the pain of remaining in the town I was living in, meshed with the seemingly-eternal struggle of waking up at 3:30 in the morning to sling lattes for unappreciative soccer moms, construction workers, and awkward teenagers, finally broke me.
Broken to a point of fracture where I didn’t have a clue as to where I should begin picking up the pieces or how to start putting them back together.
I knew that I couldn’t keep working at Starbucks.
I knew that I couldn’t keep avoiding the passions, dreams, and desires I had running through my blood.
I knew that Starbucks must be phased out of my life.
I knew the time had come to start going after what I really wanted in my life.
But I didn’t know where to start, how to begin, or even what I wanted.
That is, until Brad Hart of Make More Marbles showed me how to open my eyes to the truth of my abilities, see my untapped potential, accept the journey before me, and answer the call to adventure that was knocking on my door.
Somehow, through the oppressive mental fog, confusion, and despair, a solid course of action seemed to be pulling up the Wealth Creation video series that Brad Hart had filmed with John Romaniello (who, serendipitously, has become another impactful mentor in my life).
If I’m being honest, the wealth creation videos didn’t do much for me given that I’m Canadian, and much of the information didn’t translate across the border.
But, I liked Brad, I enjoyed the content, and I felt compelled to personally express my gratitude for the videos.
So, I reached out to him on Facebook, sent him a message of gratitude, and we started talking. Twenty minutes later, we had a call booked for the following week.
My first Skype call.
I’ll admit, I was nervous.
I didn’t know what we were going to talk about, but Brad had said he could help me walk the path from where I was (unhappy, beaten down) to where I wanted to be (living life on my own terms, feeling accomplished).
Lord knows I needed it, and for whatever reason, I trusted Brad, who at the time was a stranger on the internet.
As our call went on, the questions I had been dreading most came up (as they always do):
“What are your current income sources?”
“How much do you earn each month?”
“What do you want to do?”
Biting back tears, my answers slowly tumbled out.
At the time, I was a shift supervisor at Starbucks, living back at my parents after an experiment in living with my then-girlfriend, earning about $1500-1700/month.
Which isn’t so bad if you’re living rent free at your parents’ and have no bills aside from car insurance, gas, and food.
But Do You Really Want To Simply Survive For The Rest Of Your Life?
You see, I was stuck. And I was damn sure that I wanted to live, not cling to survival by the skin of my teeth, and day-old frozen sandwiches from Starbucks.
I wasn’t living my ultimate passion -- which is to earn an honest income through the words I write, and to compete in bodybuilding competitions. My dreams were ideas shrouded in a dense fog, and I was sapped of all desire.
I’d long since bailed on the idea of going to University. I tried for a semester, fell asleep in the front row of Statistics class on the first day, and I knew it wasn’t for me.
I’d spent a year living in Toronto, working as a personal trainer, and doing OK. But it burnt me out. Between the early mornings, empty afternoons, jam-packed evenings, the heavy sales pressure, and being woefully unequipped to adjust to building a new life in a new city at the time, I lost my passion for fitness, and for helping others improve their health and physique.
The way I saw it, I was trapped in a job that drained me, unable to earn enough to move the needle of my life, and I was becoming all too familiar with the view from my parents’ couch.
I was paralyzed, staring up the face of a mountain miles high, and the first ledge to grab was well out of reach.
Or so I thought.
This Is Where Brad Began To Work His Magic
As the curtain, and the mystery surrounding the life I envisioned was slowly pulled back, I began to see the steps before me.
I began to see how to reach that first ledge.
Honestly, the path Brad laid before me was quite simple. But I’d be lying if I said it was easy.
Brad taught me about flow states, wealth dynamics, systems, creating leverage, and explained the crux of how money is earned when you step outside of the rat race, outside of the norm, and outside of trading your irreplaceable time for nickels on the dollar at a 9-5 grind.
I learned about time, energy, and attention. Then I learned how to maximize all three, which has literally bought back hours of my life.
Not only did Brad teach me about the world that you’re not taught in school, but he showed me that it was possible to step outside of the rat race, and play the game of life on a larger, more impactful, more fulfilling and enjoyable level.
The more I learned about the opportunities available to me and the more Brad helped me see the value I had to share, the more I saw that there was no turning back.
You can’t go back the way you came.
It took me a long, long time to realize that fact. But when I did, it brought everything into focus.
This was my life now.
No longer was I the bookish, introverted, barista pouring his passion down the drain along with scalded milk each day.
Brad led me through each stage of the Hero’s Journey -- from answering the call to adventure, through trials, battles, and tests, to wage war, before finally seizing the sword and returning to a “new” ordinary world.
And then we did it again.
And again.
And again.
Up until the present day -- which has me living in my dream location, supported by what I love most, and waking up each morning to be greeted by the life I’ve always wanted.
That’s my story, Alex’s story.
Yet, amazingly, my story isn’t a one-hit wonder.
In fact, I’m at the low end of the Make More Mentors success totem pole.
Check out these amazing results:
Now, let’s turn the page, flip the script, and bring in the man himself, Brad Hart.
My name is Brad Hart, and I’m driven by a belief that the “how” or “strategy” behind achieving mastery and growth becomes clear only when you become clear on your outcome, finding your strengths, key emotional drivers, and purpose.
I operate my business and life by the motto that:
“The right mindset produces the right strategy, but even the best strategy in the world can't help the person with the wrong mindset.”
Fortunately, if you’re willing to subject yourself to the necessary pains that come with personal growth, you can cultivate the right mindset, build a life you’re passionate about, serve the world as only you can, and find the success you’ve always craved.
I say this not only because I truly believe it, but because mentoring solopreneurs, young and old, as they walk their path to becoming an entrepreneur is one of my greatest joys in life.
There’s nothing I love more than waking up to a flurry of excited messages about a client closing their first five-figure deal or finally crushing a product launch after countless flops.
If I could simply mentor people all day, until the end of time, I would.
But here’s the thing with time.
It’s a finite resource. Once it’s gone, you can’t get it back.
And I simply don’t have the capacity to mentor dozens of people each day.
As an entrepreneur, I see this lack of capacity as a problem that needs solving. And once the solution is in place, there will be an excess of abundance for everyone.
This problem of lacking the capacity to mentor as many solopreneurs such as yourself has kept me awake late into the night on many occasions, scratching my head as I tried to figured out how to scratch this mentoring itch.
The lack of capacity also highlights a bottleneck in my business model that’s been holding me back from serving the world as best I can.
And that just won’t do.
That’s not what Make More Marbles is about.
So I got to thinking…
How can I, Brad Hart, remove myself as the bottleneck in my business?
How can I bring more mentorship to more people, without spending 24 hours per day on the phone?
How can I serve the world on a larger, more impactful scale, without destroying my own life?
How can I make more marbles for everybody?
Then on one of my daily seaside runs, like an unexpected gust of cool wind, it hit me.
My Team Is The Solution
The answer had been there the entire time, bubbling beneath the surface.
And so, dripping in sweat, the scent of the sea lingering over me, with the excitement of a new idea coursing through my veins, I started recording a voice memo on my phone, and created the Make More Mentors program, with seagulls flying above, and the soothing crash of the waves in the background.
I have my crack team of amazing mentors -- the team I’ve built over the past two years -- to create more mentors, and facilitate life-altering transformations.
They can pass on the lessons I’ve taught them to all those who are coming after.
When you play this game long enough, you start to figure things out (I promise).
I know now that when I live in my strengths, magic happens.
I know the patterns. And I know that my strength is connecting others with the connections, resources, opportunities, people and systems they need to thrive in their business, in their relationships, and as human beings.
But there’s still a gap I’ve been dancing around, and trying to fill.
Because helping people for free is great. As is offering high-end masterminds to those in a position to skyrocket their results.
But what about all the people in the middle? The late-night hustlers? The 9-5 grinders? The ones who genuinely want to do, give, create, and have more, but don’t yet have the income to leap into an expensive mastermind and or beyond what free advice can bring?
Besides, free advice will only work for a select few -- because nobody values what they don’t pay for.
